  • Incubus, a band that would become a defining act of the late 1990s alternative rock and nu-metal scenes, was formed in 1991 in Calabasas, California. Comprising vocalist Brandon Boyd, guitarist Mike Einziger, drummer José Pasillas, bassist Alex "Dirk Lance" Katunich, and later, DJ Lyfe (Gavin Koppell), followed by DJ Kilmore (Chris Kilmore), the band's early sound was heavily influenced by the funk metal prevalent in early '90s California. Their journey began in high school, where the members' shared interests in music led them to create a band that would explore and transcend the musical boundaries of their time.
