Biography
Lucy Liu was born Lucy Alexis Liu on December 2, 1968, in Queens, New York City. She is the daughter of Chinese immigrant parents, who immigrated from Beijing, China. Growing up in a multicultural environment, Lucy developed an interest in performing arts from an early age.
Liu attended New York City's Stuyvesant High School and later pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Asian Studies at Columbia University, where she also took acting classes and honed her passion for the performing arts.
Career Beginnings
Lucy Liu's path into the entertainment industry began in the early 1990s with minor television roles. Her career breakthrough came in 1991 when she appeared in the television series Beverly Hills, 90210. However, her role in Ally McBeal (1998) truly cemented her as a rising star. Lucy played the character Ling Woo, a sharp, independent lawyer, and her performance received widespread critical acclaim.
