Victor Willis wasn't just the founding member of Village People, he was the only member of Village People when the "band" recorded their self-titled debut album in 1977. French producer Jacques Morali and businessman Henri Belolo recruited the trained actor, singer, and dancer to tap into the burgeoning disco market, and Willis had to help assemble a band hastily when American Bandstand called for a group performance following the success of early singles like "In Hollywood (Everybody is a Star)."
